Generally speaking, the message board is designed as a platform for all people from Northern Rhodesia and Zambia, many now scattered around the world, to celebrate and share experiences, old and new, of our country. It provides the means not only to help revisit old memories and acquaintances, but also make new friends -- and to communicate, creating bridges between the new country and the old.
Specifically, the message board is provided to the membership of the Great North Road subject to the guidelines below.
- The goals of the message board are:
- to assist in contacting old friends and acquaintances from Northern Rhodesia and Zambia,
- to enable reunions and get-togethers to be organised,
- to provide a platform for reminiscences and photographs of germane subjects,
- to enable friendships to be established and continued between members,
- to promote the growth and well-being of the GNR Web site,
- to allow communication of ideas and suggestions for the improvement of this Web site, and
- to allow discussion among the membership, with discussion of matters not related to any of the above kept to a reasonable level.
- The message board is not provided for:
- denigration of any persons alive or dead, corporate bodies, companies and the like,
- denigration of any country,
- use where private e-mail would be more appropriate,
- foul or obscene language or the baiting of other posters,
- use as a political or religious platform,
- slanderous or malicious messages,
- anonymous postings, posting with false e-mail addresses, spamming and unauthorised advertising,
- discrimination, either directly or indirectly, against any person on the grounds of sex, marital status, sexual orientation, social or economic position, race, religion, political preference, nationality, or ethnic or national origin,
- any matter not considered in general good taste or decency, and
- the posting of in-line images.
- "Germane" or "on-topic" messages are defined as those relating to Northern Rhodesia, Zambia and surrounding countries and their peoples throughout the world.
- Where deemed appropriate, any message posted in contravention of these guidelines may be deleted forthwith, without warning, and without right of appeal.
- Should a majority of the people managing the GNR feel that a member has stepped outside the bounds of these guidelines, that member will be sent a copy of these guidelines as a reminder.
- The decisions of those running the GNR will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding those decisions.
- We do not operate a mediation service between aggrieved parties.
- The spirit of the guidelines will be followed ahead of the letter of these guidelines. Great latitude will be allowed by those managing the GNR in cases where technical contraventions of individual guidelines do not threaten the overall goals of the message board stated above. Therefore, failure on the part of the GNR to ensure strict application of one or other provision of the Code in one instance does not derogate from the right or duty of the GNR to enforce compliance of any or all provisions of the Code in other and subsequent instances.
- By posting a message on this message board, you hereby agree to accept and honour these terms.
