Hallo on the Harbour ~ A Perth Welcome Bash - December 2001

A ‘Welcome to Oz Party’ was organised for Linda Hayes and her family when they visited Perth in December 2001. It was dubbed the ‘Hello On The Harbour’. After I put a notice on the GNR about the welcome for Linda, twenty-four Perthites who previously lived in or had a connection to Zambia, met in the Breakwater Tavern Beer Garden at Hillarys Boat Harbour 6pm on Sunday 23rd December.

Linda wanted to know how we'd recognize each other... (Yes - some will get a shock at just how gravity has ravaged young faces and bodies - but what the hell, we've all earned every single fold and kilo - they've also cost a fortune, so treasure them...) but I digress... I suggested we all wore something RED for Christmas!

Well. Here's a list of those who managed to squeeze a couple of hours in between the hectic happenings of Christmas. Thirty years gone - just like that (click of fingers)!!!!!

We remembered, tried to forget, defended our youthful adventures, who-went-out-with-who'd, did-you-know'd lots and generally swapped our pasts, informed of our present and promised a future - another get-together soon!

Lovely Linda (nee Dore) and the charming Mike Hayes (of course) were our very special and welcome guests.

John Milton dashed in like Rudolf - no - without the nose.

A VERY late Noel (naughty boy) Daley, who's girlfriend Christie enjoyed the special company of Nico Stapleberg before the Crocodile Rocker arrived. Happy 50th birthday Noel for yesterday (now) - welcome to the club.

Chris and Hazel (nee Dutton) Forde who've taken photos and will get them on the net ASAP.

Pat and Grace (nee Millar) Forde - 'You were a go-go dancer! Of course I remember you...'

Sue Forde - with a terrible memory for names; 'D'you remember?' So many names flew around, I can't quote them here, cos I don't...

Elaine Noell (who is visiting from the UK) and her Dear Old Dad; also a blow-in - an AUSSIE friend, Ron.

Alix Key sat wide-eyed enjoying the stories, trying to file them away 'up there'.

Sue Chapman 'You used to be engaged to Ian Wright' - who's still gorgeous now married to Colwyn Evans who 'hopped in as soon as he heard - can't let the good ones get away'. (He's very easy on the eye too girls - you'll see.)

Karen Chapman (Sue's little sister) a thespian, like our Noel... they even belong to the same theatre groups. Watch out for him, Karen - see Colwyn's comments above...

Bhupe Chauhan Another handsome man - his wise wife Bev came to fetch him and say 'hello' too, after work.

The 'boys' oozed the famous Northern Rhodesian charm (Ja - I've missed it) and the 'girls' lapped it up.

It was sad that we had so little time to swap stories, but the police Booze Bus was parked round the corner and John asked if anyone had a property - 100 acres or so that we could all gather there next time. He want's us to CAMP!!!!! A sleep-over!!! I think he secretly desires a Zambian love-in - another Woodstock in WA. We'll see.

One thing is for sure, those of us that did manage to meet the lovely Linda and the exceptionally well-behaved Beauteous, had a great time.

We toasted each other and those out in Cyberspace, 'What would we do without the GNR?'

We had the phone ready Johnny Green and Dawie our Founder - the bar staff were informed of your call - Linda knows you were thinking of her.

Maggie May - yes - I gave Linda a big hug and kiss on your behalf and for everyone who couldn't be there.

Mike also took some great photos with his serious case and camera. I know Linda will tell you her thoughts as soon as she has a moment to gather - Beauteous is probably running riot with them...

Hopefully, some of the other attendees will post their impressions too!

Photos as promised following the get together at Hillarys Boat Harbour with Linda. Actually Linda and Mike were here a short time ago and managed to peruse the contribution . We captured most of the people there.
