Mufulira Sign Painter
From Great North Road
By John Ries.
Here are a few photos of some of my sign work as a part time sign painter whilst being employed by Mufulira Copper Mines as Survey Draftsman 1955-1959.
All sign work for the mine had to be done under contract by my wife. Of course I landed up doing all the work. Casual leave, Saturday afternoons and some Sundays work was always done. I also designed the Hi-Spot Soft drink bottle and trademark. Many slides shown at Muf Cinema were done by myself.
As I gained experience and confidence, I felt time was right for me to apply for a USA visa. America, the Mecca of advertising. I am not sorry we made the decision to immigrate to the USA. 5 children, 9 grand children and semi retired still doing a few signs, but with the aid of a computer.
Enjoying life, June and I are not in 100% health, but manage.
