NRP - Early '50's
From Great North Road
Weddings occurred every month in NR, dependent on accommodation availability on a seniority basis; first tour a 'no no'.
Photo shows the stag line of single members at Fred Humphreys' nuptials reception, in the drill hall Ndola. Note ample Castle Lager among our happy temperate
band. Myself, Jim Thompson now in Zimbabwe god bless him, Derrick Taylor now in UK and Paul Speich presently in the Cape.
The second photo is a shot of a patrol with the first of the Landrover vehicles available to the NRP. Bedford utility vanettes were in use up to this point.
Seated Jack Burn, "Lester" Piggott in mufti, Derrick Taylor and myself. Lost all sight of both Jack and Lester.
It may be useful to mention here that the NRP was only formed in 1932 and disbanded, to make way for the Zambia Police, 1964. A History is available by Tim
Wright, through Simon Boice - British Empire Museum, Temple Meads, Bristol. BSI 6QH. It includes details of all past serving members.
