From Great North Road

Contributed by Arthur Steevens.
September 2002.
(Article from the Rhokana Review, July 1957.)

Named After Major L. A. Pollak, M.C.

The decision to call the new R.A.M.S. building Pollak House is a fitting tribute to Major L. A. Pollack, M.C. The building, opposite the White House, is a branch office of the Anglo American Corporation of South Africa.

Major Pollak was associated with Anglo American, both as a Director and a Manager He was deputy-Chairman of the Corporation from 1929 until his death on June 29, 1934. He was Managing Director in South Africa of Rhodesia Anglo American Limited from the time of the Company's incorporation until his death.

He was also Managing Director of Rhokana Corporation Limited and in addition, was a Director of the Bwana Mkubwa Copper Company. Major Pollak, a brother-in-law of Sir Ernest Oppenheim.
