On Safari - 1952
From Great North Road

From the papers of Mack A. Lundy Jr.
I never lived in Northern Rhodesia but I have some items of interest to your members. We lived in South Africa from 1952 - 1956 and my father flew into Northern Rhodesia frequently. He also hunted and, I believe, fished there.
I have a hunting license issued to him by the government of No. Rhodesia as well as a nice brochure put out by the government describing safaris they conducted.
My father was an aircraft radio operator. In 1951 he applied for foreign service and was accepted for duty in Pretoria, South Africa as the radio operator on the C-47 flown by the Air Attache on behalf of the U.S. Embassy. My mother, brother (16 months), and me(5.5 yrs) accompanied him. We were in Pretoria from 1952 - 1956. Dad flew into many airports in Africa and his diplomatic status gave him many opportunities. This safari didn't cost him anything. He was in Northern Rhodesia, the Belgian Congo, and Angola quite a few times.
I hope these items will make a contribution to your web site. Cheers
Mack (the 3rd)
