Postcards from on board the Union Castle Line

Memories on a Postcard - from the days of the Union Castle Line
Two pictures taken on the SA Oranje whilst going to visit relatives in Scotland in 1967. The one was the good old "Fancy Dress" that they always held and the other was at dinner celebrating my 19th birthday - gosh those were certainly wonderful times to remember!"

The S.A. Oranje pic was taken in 66.
The guy with the glasses is Rick Cooper (Sam's brother), two to the left is Terry Keast and yours truly at the rear with the brush cut. Someone may be able to identify the others. Peter Dielissen was on the same trip ( he was probably puking over the side at the time!)

The Athlone Castle was on the quay at Las Palmas outward bound to Capetown in 1958.

As promised, a couple of more shots of the Fenwick clan. These were taken on the Windsor Castle in April 1969 when we, as a family, went overseas to visit the relations for the first time.
My folks had left Scotland in the 50's for a new life in Africa, Dad went first to set things up and my Mom followed by ship a few months later with Theresa (aged 6) and Linda (aged about 12 months) in tow AND pregnant with me! How brave, apparently she spent most of the time on the ship (while suffering sea and morning sickness) trying to stop a particular horrid little boy throwing Linda over the side and 3 days on the train from Cape Town, throwing soiled nappies out the window. Honestly, people in those days had no respect for the environment!
Anyhow, 16 years later, these shots are from the first time they returned to Scotland and also the first holiday we had as a family in all those years.
It was a great trip and after visiting the relations in Dundee, the three older girls headed to London with our lovely cousin Duncan, showing us all the wonderful 60's sights and sounds. He was absolutely delighted to have us all hanging onto his very word and we felt so 'cool' to be in London going to Carnaby Street, visiting the sights and clubs, etc.

RMS Windsor Castle – 1960’s
G'day,
Sea travel was the prize at the end of each tour of service; West coast or the more exotic East coast route provided an ocean holiday, and was eagerly anticipated and endured as central to all dinner conversations.
Can't recall the actual date of this voyage in the early 60's, possibly the maiden North bound trip for the newest vessel of the Union Castle fleet - RMS Windsor Castle. Debbie and I met up with a grand drinking crowd of Copperbelt folks. No names come to mind.
