San Tropez

From Great North Road

Johnny Green's mention of revolving tassels, brought back a flood of mammories for me.

In June of 1962, my Dad and I made the long trek from Lusaka up to the bustling metropolis of Kitwe to attend a boxing show. While I enjoyed the pugalistic antics of the champs and chumps, I must admit to a greater enjoyment of the cultural talents that Kitwe had to offer.

After the boxing show, a number of the "boys" including my Dad and I headed for the San Tropez for a few bites and to see the sights. Being a testostorone charge lad of sixteen, I knew upon entering this cultural palace that I was going to enjoy this new experience.

While trying to eat dinner, my eyes were rivited on a young gyrating lady as she seductively removed her clothing and started twirling the tassels attached to her ample breasts in opposite directions. This was also the first time I experienced whiplash.

The young lady, when completely naked other than her tassels and a strategically placed g-string, started to dance around the tables. At one table, just as she was about to place her delightful derriere on a corner, the gentleman who sitting at the table was not amused and just as the young damsel was about to sit down, he slid his soup plate under her ...... the young artiste let out a blood curdling yell, which resulted in a number of muscular men rushing to her defence.

This was my first and last visit to the San Tropez, and I left Kitwe with a greater appreciation of the arts.
