Twentieth Century Cinema, Lusaka
From Great North Road
For those that don't remember this is the Twentieth Century Cinema (or bioscope as it was known).
To the best of my knowledge they no longer show movies there. The last time I went to one must have been in about 1982/3 and saw some Peter Sellers movie.
The road in which it is situated is now called Katungila Road. To the left of it (not in the photo) was what was originally Keye's Department Store. It then became ZCBC (Zambia Consumer Buyer's Corporation), one of the multitude of state-owned stores which sold nothing for lots - rows and rows of sugar, toilet paper, soap (if we were lucky), kapenta, eggs and the occasional bottle of salad oil (Saladi was the trade name). It is now part of one of the South African groups, Smart Centre, selling clothes which very few people here can afford to buy.
