Book Store
You are now able to purchase books through the Great North Road Web site. A small commision is paid on sales of books made through this site. These commissions will be used to offset the costs of running the GNR. At the moment you are able to purchase books through two of the major on-line book sellers. These are Amazon.com in the USA, and Amazon.co.uk in the UK. (I would like to add book sellers in South Africa and Australia, but don't know of any at the moment that have an affiliate programme. If you can enlighten me on this, I would appreciate it.) There are other book sellers, but these two do not require that they be the only book seller on the site — Barnes and Noble in the US and Europe, as well as Chapters in Canada, all require that I deal with them exclusively, something I do not want to do as it limits your choices and options. Additionally, due to the recent merger of Indigo and Chapters, the incompetent way in which the merger was handled, and the lack of notice given by the new conglomeration, all of the book links to the Indigo site will result in an error message. I am not in a hurry to fix this, as I am working on a completely new site and anything I do with this book section will be incorporated there. My apologies for the inconvenience. As far as I know all of the book sellers listed above will ship worldwide, so pick the store that gives you the best deal on both the book, as well as the shipping and handling (post and packing). Of course, prices will be listed in the currency of the country where the major book seller is located, so take forex rates into account (not to mention taxes). Select Books in South Africa comes highly recommended by Dave Cooper, who says that he deals with them all the time. You can go directly to their Web site, or you can read what Dave has to say about them first. I have divided the books into four sections for now; Politics, Biographies, History and Nature. If you have suggestions for more sections, suggestions for particular books, or reviews of books, please let me know. At the moment I don't have access to my personal library so, although I have numerous books related to Southern and Central Africa, I won't be able to remember all the ones I have read and so they won't all be included individually. If you don't find what you are looking for listed on this site, you can always use one of the search boxes below to find what you want in the inventories of the major book sellers. Books found and purchased this way also generate a commission. Not all books are available from all book sellers, so if you don't see a link next to a book (on the pages of the GNR) pointing to a particular book seller, then it means that that book seller did not carry that title when the page was created. I will try and stay on top of that, but it can't hurt to do a search through one of the search boxes at the bottom of the pages in the book store if you would like to be certain that your favourite book seller doesn't have the book you want in inventory.
