- With the map displayed on the GNR page, position your cursor over the map and click on it with your left mouse button (this focuses on the map). Then to access the navigational menu click your right mouse button (right-click). A menu will appear with menu items that lets you "Zoom", "Pan", and do a number of other things to navigate about the map.
- To zoom in and out, select "Zoom" from the right-click menu and with the left mouse button depressed drag your mouse up and down.
- To pan about the map, select "Pan" and with the left button depressed drag the mouse over the map. Releasing the mouse and then depressing again, lets you pan to new areas of the map.
- The purple shutter icons on the map mean there is a hotlink to a photo of this location. This is what the icon looks like:
In ADR, CTRL+click on the shutter icon to display a photo of the location. In the browser on the GNR, your cursor may change to a pointing finger cursor. Click on the icon to display the photo. These photos have been contributed by members of the GNR, they date from the 1930s to recent times.
You can request that other hotlinks be added to the map. So, if you have ideas or photos, don't hesitate to make a contribution.
- Click anywhere with your left mouse button to clear the menu.
Other tips on using the map
- Using the right-click menu over the map, you can pan and zoom to navigate around the map and to get better detailed views of specific areas. For example, to use the "Zoom to Rectangle" menu item, with your mouse specify a rectangular area enclosing an area, such as the city centre. When you release the mouse you will get a zoomed-in view of Nkana-Kitwe's city centre.
- Using the "Save as" menu item on the right-click menu, you can save a copy of the Nkana-Kitwe DWF file to your computer. Then you can use the AutoCAD® Design Review application to view the map independently of the browser.
- In ADR, you can turn off certain layers in the map by using the Layers pallette in the Navigator Pane. For example, if you want to see the map without the purple shutter icons (hotlinks), just click the yellow light bulb next to the Hotlinks layer and it turns off. Click it back to turn it on. You can do this with any layer.
We hope that you have been successful in displaying the map, and that you find this a useful and fun feature of the Great North Road web site. If you have problems getting the map to display, or if you require support, please contact support.
