Beryl's Obituary
Our sister Beryl Hallett (née Trail) passed away from cancer on Sunday the 13th July 2003, in Harare. Anybody wishing to send Pat and family condolences may send them to their daughter Michelle in Budapest (mish_hu@yahoo.ie). I am sure Pat would appreciate it.
We are an old Nkana family and my Dad was Sonny Trail. We arrived in Nkana in 1939 from Kimberley and the last one left in 1970. Pat Hallett, her husband, was also from an old Nkana family. They left Kitwe in 1968 and settled in Harare.
--Bob and Thelma Trail
My aunt Beryl Hallett passed away in Harare on Sunday July 13th, after a valiant battle with cancer. Beryl was formerly Beryl Trail and she and Pat Hallett were long-time residents of Kitwe. Pat worked out at Mindola Shaft and Beryl worked at the "silicosis bureau". Their daughters Michelle, who lives in Budapest, and Sharon, who lives in LA, were able to make it back to Harare to be with their Mum and Dad and their Aunt Joan Maurer, also a long-time resident of Nkana.
This is not exactly an obituary just for those who may have known Beryl and Pat and the girls. At the moment, as you well know, we are a bit numb from the shock. Beryl and Pat should have arrived in LA on the 11th July to spend six weeks with Sharon, but Bee had a slight cough and the rest now is history.
