This is a log of significant events and updates made to the GNR in 1999.


December 30th, 1999:
  • Added link to the links page.
December 28th, 1999:
  • Added photograph of Standard 5A at Chingola Primary School in 1957 from Mary "Marina" Maxwell to the Memorabilia section.
December 15th, 1999:
  • Fixed broken links in book store and tidied up the pages.
December 10th, 1999:
  • Added explanatory notes to the top of this page.
  • Added an extra link to this page on the home page.
December 1st, 1999:
  • Added a book store to the site. You can now purchase books related to Northern Rhodesia through this Web site.
  • Moved this list of updates to its own page.
  • Updated the Contribute to this Site page.
  • Added link to the links page.
November 30th, 1999:
  • Added a pop-up to the home page for alerts about timely upcoming events. For information about adding your organisation's information to this pop-up, please see the Contribute to this Site page.
  • Added four more links to the links page.
November 24th, 1999:
  • Added two new links to the links page.
November 21st, 1999:
  • Added photographs of Victoria Falls from Steve Stephenson to the Memorabilia section.
  • Updated all Names Directory (We Are...) entries to correct a colour code that might have resulted in a strange display in some browsers.
November 15th, 1999:
  • Fixed the problem with Netscape not displaying full-size images when thumbnails are clicked.
  • Fixed the problem with Netscape displaying small lines after clickable images.
  • Fixed the problem with Netscape not displaying the correct font.
  • Fixed a problem with the Kitwe interactive map.
November 14th, 1999:
  • The site search engine is back on-line. It ain't pretty, but it works that way (for now).
November 11th, 1999:
  • The site has undergone a major reorganisation to decrease load times (particularly on some of the pages that display a lot of pictures), improve visual consistency and fix broken links. Please let me know if you spot any problems.
    • The Names Directory (We Are...) has undergone a complete revision. If you already have an entry in the directory, please check it for accuracy. If you would like to add yourself to the directory, or wish to update your current entry, please do so through the additions page. Thanks very much.
    • The After Livingstone... pages have been completely re-done. Read some early history of NR, Robert Retamal's article on Nkana in the 1930's and 1940's and view Gordon Dixon's photographs from the 1960's.
    • The Memorabilia pages have also been completely redone. There's a new group photo from Lusaka Boys' School as well as some maps of the Copperbelt from Mervyn Blumberg.
    • Likewise, the Northern Tales page has been reformatted. There are some great stories there.
    • The links that used to be on the home page have been moved to their own links page.
October 18th, 1999:
